Music Zone
Welcome to the Music Zone. I really like listening to music, it's become the medium through which I can understand reality, and in some ways I cannot live without it. I do not play any instruments, but it would be nice to learn.
This page contains: a last.fm feed where you can see my last played or currently playing song, a section where I review albums, and a display of CDs I've collected (through buying and stealing).
This is where I post reviews of my favourite albums. Recent reviews will be up at the top, and older reviews will be down the bottom. I know nothing about music theory, so they won't really be very in-depth; but I can still feel things from music, which is what these posts usually talk about.
Radiohead - The Bends
This is a classic to be honest, and is by far my favourite Radiohead album. With OK Computer, Radiohead shifted towards a more electronic emotional elements. The Bends marks the inbetween point from the 90s grunge style of Pablo Honey to that emotional style they're known for today.
One of my favourite elements of this album are how fun songs like Planet Talex and Just are juxtaposed between the emotional songs like Fake Plastic Trees and Bullet Proof... I Wish I Was. The pinnacle of this album is High and Dry, which has been a song that's been playing in my head since I could first remember the rolling hills of the town I live in, so it has a deep connection to me and my place in the world.
Another highlight is (nice dream), which is my favourite from this album. It grounds itself as one of the emotional acoustic songs, but gradually introduces complementary guitar rock elements, only to then fall back into that acoustic ballad. This emotional intensity is why this is my favourite from this album, and it's unfortunate this song is so overlooked.
Favourite track: (nice dream)
Nouns - Still Bummed
Still Bummed is one of my favourite albums ever made. The entire album is a cohesive collection of moody sounds, that when listened to; transport you to into a depressing yet nostalgic reflection of childhood.
This album is best listened to during winter, when it gets lonely, or you're just feeling a bit like life was better back when you were younger.
Favourite track: school bus
Incubus - Morning View
I love this friggin' album. I think one of the things that draws me so much into it is the early 2000s tropical aesthetic that it eminates throughout the entire album, including the cover art. I once described it (in my head) as Linkin Park, but if they were on a beach.
Favourite track: Wish You Were Here
Diana Ah Naid - I don't think I'm pregnant
I found this as a CD at an op shop (thrift shop for you americans) for $2. I was a bit sceptical at first considering I had never heard of it before, I figured this would either be the worst thing I would ever hear, or it could be the best thing ever. I was so happy to learn it was the latter.
Favourite track: I don't think I'm pregnant
This is my collection of CDs that I've surmounted. Yes, they costed a lot of money. Yes, I have slowed down with buying these things. Yes, I listen to them regularly. Yes, I've ripped them and listen to them digitally on my phone and on my computer.
